Privacy Policy

FileCommander X ("the App") is developed by an independent developer. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and your choices.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Data processed locally (never leaves your device)

• Files & storage: The App reads, writes, copies, moves, compresses, and manages files on your device storage and connected USB OTG drives. All file operations happen on-device.
• Biometric data: Fingerprint / biometric authentication is handled entirely by Android's BiometricPrompt API. The App never accesses or stores raw biometric data.
• App usage stats: When you grant Usage Access permission, the App reads per-app storage and cache sizes for the Storage Analyzer feature. This data stays on your device.
• Clipboard: The App may read the clipboard to detect copied download links. Clipboard content is not stored or transmitted.

1.2 Data transmitted over the network

• LAN file transfer (WiFi Direct / FTP / SMB): Files are transferred directly between devices on your local network. No data is sent to our servers.
• Cloud storage (Dropbox): When you connect your Dropbox account, the App uses the official Dropbox API with OAuth 2.0 (PKCE) to access your cloud files. The App does not store your Dropbox password. You can revoke access at any time from your Dropbox account settings.
• Advertising: The App uses Google AdMob to display ads. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including Advertising ID), IP address, and usage data to serve personalized ads. See Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalized ads in your device's Google settings.
• In-app purchases: Subscription and purchase transactions are processed by Google Play Billing. Payment information is handled by Google and is not accessible to the App.

1.3 Data we do NOT collect

• We do not collect personal information such as name, email, or phone number.
• We do not operate our own servers or analytics backend.
• We do not sell, share, or rent any user data to third parties.

2. Permissions

The App requests the following Android permissions:

• Storage / Media: To browse, manage, and modify files on your device.
• Internet & Network: For LAN file transfer, cloud storage, ad delivery, and in-app purchases.
• USB Host: To access USB OTG storage devices.
• Biometric: To protect folders or the App with fingerprint/face lock.
• Notifications: To show progress for file operations running in the background.
• Install/Delete packages: For the built-in App Manager feature.
• Usage Stats: For the Storage Analyzer to show per-app storage breakdown (requires manual grant).

3. Third-Party Services

The App integrates the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:

• Google AdMob — advertising
• Google Play Billing — in-app purchases
• Dropbox — cloud storage

4. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

5. Data Retention

The App does not maintain user accounts or store personal data on external servers. All user-generated data (bookmarks, settings, themes) is stored locally on the device and is deleted when the App is uninstalled.

6. Security

The App uses industry-standard practices including OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for cloud authentication and Android Keystore-backed biometrics. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Effective date" at the top of this page.
